Helping neighbourhoods thrive through the transformative power of relationships

What we do

At the heart of The Good Neighbourhood Project lies a clear vision, deeply rooted in the belief of the transformative power of relationships and the inherent strength found within local communities.

Our story is centred on neighbourhoods that are often overlooked. Our team doesn't shy away from these areas, but instead immerses itself in them. This is driven by years of firsthand experiences that have revealed the hidden potential that these places possess. It's a potential unlocked when people come together to live, work, learn, celebrate, and share their lives.

Our philosophy centers around collaborating with our local community to create innovative and imaginative solutions for their specific challenges. We dedicate ourselves to the process of learning, integrating, and connecting, in order to become an integral part of the neighbourhood fabric. We understand that genuine, long-lasting transformation within communities happens when it actively involves the individuals who call that place home.

Every project we undertake is intentionally designed to foster a sense of community, to embrace life collectively, and to extend a helping hand. Whether it's enhancing food security, fostering community bonds, advancing education, or creating a strong sense of place, we firmly believe that genuine local transformation thrives when the residents themselves are the drivers of change.

  • Our team lives and works alongside our neighbours to co-create shared solutions to local challenges. We work to build relationships with our neighbours and grow a deeper understanding of the history and story of our community.

  • We start by encouraging and building on what is good and already flourishing in the neighbourhood.

  • By bringing people together, dreaming and working from the bottom up we believe change is possible.

  • We believe that people in our neighbourhoods are adversely impacted by systems outside of their control. Our role is to speak up and challenge these systems and work collectively for a better alternative.

  • Faith-informed community development values diverse religious traditions, fostering inclusivity, mutual respect, and cohesion. It draws on faith's strength and ethical guidance for justice, peace, and community building.

Our Methods

  • People

By building a network of relationships and creating spaces for belonging, we are enhancing social capital, investing in people’s strengths and skills and helping our community build resilience. Fundamentally, our work is focused on building a network of trusted relationships that can be catalysed for positive social outcomes across our neighbourhood.

  • Places

Across our neighbourhoods, there are spaces that play an important role in helping people in our community connect with each other and access vital services. Because of this, we seek to invest in these spaces and activate them so that they benefit the needs of the people who live here.

  • Power

Part of our role as an organisation is to be advocates for systems change. We recognise that therecan be no local transformation without dealing with the root causes of the challenges people face.Systems change represents the structural shift required for lasting community renewal. It involvesoverhauling outdated policies, reconfiguring institutions, and realigning resources to better serve theentire community. By advocating for systems change, we address the root causes of the challenges our communityfaces, rather than merely treating the symptoms.
