Lab Square Neighbourhood COmmons

Labuan Square, established in 1954, has now experienced decades of decline yet remains at an important place in the the heart of our neighbourhood. In 2020, The Good Neighbourhood Project assisted the City of Greater Geelong as they redeveloped the public space in the square. Since 2023 The Good Neighbourhood Project has worked alongside local volunteers and leaders to open a community cafe space, op-shop, craft shop, community lunch and numerous local events to help activate and revitalise this important place in our neighbourhood.

Lab Square Commons Cafe

Labuan Square Commons Cafe is a volunteer run, welcoming community space offering affordable meals and fostering social connections among residents.

Wednesday Community Lunch

Bringing together over 60 people each week, Wednesday Community Lunch promotes the local shopping centre as a safe, attractive and vibrant place for people to gather while supporting small business and the local economy

Community Events

The locally run event team organises activities throughout the year that attract over 300 people to the square including community celebrations, local markets and arts events

Lab Square OP Shop

Lab Square Op Shop offers affordable, high-quality second-hand goods to the community, fostering sustainability and supporting local initiatives. Operated by dedicated volunteers, the shop provides a welcoming space for our community. All proceeds fund neighbourhood programs, enhancing the well-being and cohesion of the 3214 community .

The Farm Next Door

The Farm Next Door is a volunteer-run urban farm that grows vegetables for The Good Neighbourhood Project food security initiatives and provides education and events for the local community

Lab Square Craft Shop

Lab Square Craft Shop offers affordable, high-quality craft materials for the community. Operated by dedicated volunteers, the shop provides a welcoming space for our community and runs various up-cycling and craft workshops for the neighbourhood.
